![]() Sushmita reportedly refused to shoot for the blockbuster song, Mehboob Mere from Hrithik Roshan and Karisma Kapoor starrer Fiza because it had suggestive lyrics. So much so that she once refused to lip-sync for a song because it had suggestive lyrics. Sushmita has never compromised on her ethics in the line of her work. When she refused to lip-sync suggestive lyrics (2002), Samay: When Time Strikes (2003), Chingaari (2005) and Zindaggi Rocks (2006), which also garnered her critical acclaim. She then experimented with roles in films such as Filhaal. Sunidhi sang the song, which was composed by Anu Malik. She has also acted in commercially successful films such as Aankhen (2002), Main Hoon Na (2004) – her biggest commercial success - and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005). Fiza was released in 2000, and even though it has been 20 years, the song Mehboob Mere is still recognised and adored by fans. The latter earned her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Later, she attained commercial and critical recognition for her roles in Sirf Tum (1999) and the comedy Biwi No.1 (1999). She rose to stardom with the Tamil musical Ratchagan opposite Nagarjuna. She made her Bollywood debut with Dastak, a thriller, at a time when actresses preferred to make their debut in romantic films. When it came to films, she has made pretty bold choices.
